Electrolux Design Lab holds an annual
design competition for creating home appliances with a fresh theme each year. The whole idea behind the competition held is to
make household appliances that would be
used in 2050 which would not only save on space but would also be energy efficient. In keeping mind the competition's theme, The 2nd Space Age, Yuri Dmritriev submitted the Bio Robot Fridge concept.
This concept really challenges
the idea of a fridge as it doesn’t even look like a refrigerator, or any other
household appliance for that matter. There is no motor, no door, only a layer
of gel where you put things in and keep them fresh. It is made of a biopolymer
gel that is non-sticky and non-hazardous. When food items are inserted into the
gel, different items are separated into pods in the process of encapsulating
the items. The Bio Robot Fridge not only can be mounted on a wall, but also on
a ceiling. The refrigerator works on the method
of transforming the incoming UV radiation into visible light which provides the
cooling through different wavelengths. The refrigerator can be filled to
90% of the available space into separate pods that ensures that each food item
is cooled at an optimum temperature, without odours of the foods mixing in.
This concept has created quite a rage
as its gives the refrigerator industry a futuristic twist but still it is still a concept for now, feels like may
become a reality soon.
